  • 1967

    In spring of 1967, the section schools in Elma Township closed and all students were transferred to the newly opened Elma Township Public School, in Newry. But there was just one thing that needed sorted — the students needed a way to get to school! The community reached out to the reliable local dairy farmer, George Weber of Welen Brae Farms, to create a bussing company for the students. George opened and ran his bussing business for several years with a fleet of 16 buses until sold to the next owners in 1978.

  • 1978

    In 1978, Bruce and Harold Srigley purchased the bussing business from George Weber and upon ownership, renamed it to Newry Coach Lines. The two brothers carried on the legacy of excellent service and built up the business to include bussing to Listowel District Secondary School (LDSS). As Newry Coach Lines continued to evolve, they built a new maintenance facility in 1987 to help with the growth and expansion of the company.

  • 1999

    In 1999, Newry Coach Lines was bought by John and Janice Chapman — marking the start of the Chapman’s family-first business approach that NCL is known for today. Prior to purchasing Newry Coach Lines, John was a transport truck driver for 20 years, while Jan was an elementary school teacher at Listowel Eastdale for 34 years. Bussing was a career that brought both of their strengths together and made them a very formidable, committed pair that brought a lot of dedication not only to their business but to their industry.

  • 1999 continued

    Over the 24 years of ownership, John and Janice Chapman have grown Newry Coach Lines from what was once a fleet of 12 buses, to now housing 48 buses and providing student transportation for 14 schools across 5 counties in Ontario. They also oversaw four expansions, including a new office and maintenance facility in 2014 to ensure they continued their promise of providing service above the industry standard.

  • Fun Fact!

    John’s mother Mary, joined Newry Coach Lines in 1974 as a company driver for George Weber. Over the years, she worked as a bookkeeper and dispatcher and saw first-hand how the business evolved through the Srigley brother’s ownership to working for her son and daughter-in-law during their 20+ year ownership until her retirement in 2017.

  • 2022

    In 2022, John and Janice’s son Ryan officially joined the NCL team along with his wife Jacquie, continuing the Chapman family legacy. Ryan was raised around the bussing business during his parents’ 24 years of ownership and to enhance his skillsets, he worked as a diesel mechanic for other industry-leading companies expanding his knowledge from other perspectives. It was a natural transition for Jacquie into the busing industry as well since she has been working with children and youth for over 10 years. Ryan and his family now reside in Newry, with the goal and passion to continue the traditions of Newry Coach Lines and maintain a family-first mentality at the forefront of their daily operations.

Newry Coach Lines Today

Continuing on the road of excellence

Newry Coach Lines has now transitioned to its second generation of the Chapman family ownership. As Ryan and his wife Jacquie take the driver’s seat, they are excited to bring NCL into the 21st Century with new ways to easily connect with their customers and continue to provide the best experience possible.
